Once Upon A Time.....

The land on which the Farmer's Hill Group House was built was purchased in l971 - approx. 140 acres for $10,000. The topographic map for the area shows 2 small Farmer's Hills hence the name and the group became a legal corporation in the State of Maine in 1985 Farmer's Hill Group, Inc.

When the land was purchased there was an old shack down near the road where 5 double bed bunks were built, and a beautiful old wood burning kitchen stove was installed. The shack had no electricity or running water, so we used old fashioned kerosene lamps and found a very small spring/water hole which Walter improved a bit where we would get water in containers. That old water spot dried up a long time ago.

still building!

An outhouse was built as well, which was nicknamed the Spruce Grouse Out House.

None of the members lived in Maine at that time and we would drive up from Boston on weekends. The members started building a real house in 1972 again using absolutely no power tools as there was still no electricity on the land.

who are we?

The house was recorded as done in 1973 and even more done in 1974 when Michael and Saundy moved into it with Tom and Ann, but in actuality, the house is not done, and probably never will be!
